Padre Island National Seashore

Padre Island National Seashore is situated along the south Texas coast. The longest undeveloped stretch of barrier island in the world is protected by it. There is a Sea Turtle Science and Recovery Program. It is part of a global effort to help recuperate populations of defenseless sea turtles that are in danger of extinction in the Gulf of Mexico.

There are over 380 species of birds that dwell in Padre Island National Seashore. Almost half of all bird species that have been documented in north America are located here. The national seashore is located on the central flyway. The central flyway is a major bird migration path in America.

The weather is magnificent year around. Padre Island has long, warm summers and short, mild winters. In the summer the temperatures very from the high 80’s to low 90’s. A refreshing sea breeze helps to keep the summer temperatures perfect. In the winter the highs are commonly in the 60s with some lows in the 40s and 50s. In the spring and fall highs are usually in the 70s-80s with lows in the 50s-60s.
